On August 23, the award ceremony for outstanding students of the Shang‑Xie Yu Clan was grandly held at the Bohe Ancestral Hall. On this auspicious day, the ancestral hall glowed with festive splendour. Clan relatives, distinguished elders, nine high‑achieving students and their parents gathered at the ancestral shrine to celebrate the young talents.

The solemn and well‑organised ceremony proceeded in proper order.

At the opening of the event, clan elders Yu Zulu and Yu Songhuo led all students into the ancestral hall to pay homage to their forebears. Through this ritual, the younger generation learned about their origins, honoured ancestral virtues and cultivated gratitude. The national anthem was played, setting an inspiring tone for the gathering.

Yu Xianghong, Chairman of the Clan Council, presided over the ceremony and delivered the opening address. He encouraged the students to live up to ancestral teachings, cherish their youth, pursue knowledge diligently and serve the country. Yu Wengen, Secretary of the Scholarship Foundation, presented a transparent and rigorous report on student eligibility review. Yu Qingde, Deputy Secretary‑General of the Fujian Yu Clan Committee, attended as a guest and spoke highly of the Shang‑Xie Yu Clan’s fine tradition of respecting teachers and nurturing talents. Yu Qinglin from the Clan Council gave a detailed report on the year’s scholarship and student‑aid work, reviewing the clan’s achievements in fostering young people and recording its charitable endeavours. Yu Xiangzhou, Chairman of the Scholarship Foundation, delivered closing remarks. He urged students to cultivate integrity and pursue academic excellence, and caled on clan members to pass down fine family values and sustain educational support for generations to come.

Certificates and scholarships were presented to outstanding students on‑site, and financial assistance was granted to underprivileged student Yu Huizhen.

Descended from the noble Xiapi lineage, the Yu cultural legacy thrives across Fujian and Jiangxi for generations.

Located in Shang‑Xie Village, Shuixi Town, Ninghua County, Fujian Province, the Bohe Ancestral Hall stands as the spiritual and cultural home of the Shang‑Xie Yu Clan. First founded in the 18th year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty, it was established by Ancestor Bohe, who chose this land to settle and build the clan. Renovated over successive centuries, the hall retains its time‑honoured features and stately layout. For hundreds of years, it has embodied the clan ethos of valuing education and farming‑rooted virtue, witnessing the continuous prosperity and growth of the Yu lineage.

Since its founding in the Ming Dynasty, the Shang‑Xie Yu Clan has flourished and produced numerous accomplished individuals. Upholding ancestral precepts, clan members migrated far and wide. Many branches settled in Shicheng, Ningdu and other parts of Jiangxi Province, taking root and forming a large interconnected community of Yu clans across Fujian and Jiangxi. Though separated by administrative boundaries and mountains and rivers, they share the same origin tracing back to Ancestor Bohe. Across Fujian and Jiangxi, these kindred groups maintain close fellowship, support one another, uphold ancestral virtues and advance the reputation of their clan.

To carry forward the age‑old tradition of valuing education and motivate young clansmen to study hard and fulfil their potential, generous donations from Yu clansmen led to the founding of the Scholarship and Student‑Aid Foundation in 2023. For four consecutive years, the foundation has hosted award ceremonies. Thirty‑six outstanding students have received recognition and grants, and one disadvantaged student has obtained financial support. Through concrete actions, the clan promotes education and nurtures rising generations, ensuring its fine traditions of virtue and talent‑cultivation endure.

The ancestral hall opens for a grand gathering; ancestral virtues nurture promising youth. This ceremony not only recognised the hard‑won academic achievements of Shang‑Xie Yu students, but also conveyed sincere expectations and moral edification to younger clansmen. By rewarding academic pursuit, uplifting the clan through learning and fostering virtue, the time‑honoured precept of revering education and farming‑rooted virtue shines with new vitality in modern times.

May ancestral blessings endure, and the kinship between Fujian and Jiangxi branches remain strong. May cultural heritage live on and talents keep emerging.

May clansmen of Shang‑Xie in Ninghua and its offshoots in Shicheng and Ningto unite in harmony and strengthen fraternal bonds. May young clansmen remember ancestral grace, hold lofty aspirations and strive through earnest learning.

May the noble Xiapi legacy endure forever, and the illustrious reputation of the Yu Clan prosper through all ages.
