Held at the China National Convention Center from June 17 to 21, the 32nd Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF) is the world’s second-largest book fair, as well as China’s most influential international book fair platform and Asia’s most internationalized publishing exhibition. Founded in 1986, BIBF is sponsored by the National Press and Publication Administration and organized by China National Publications Import and Export (Group) Corporation.
Under the theme Connecting the World via Books, Promoting Dialogue, Cooperation and Win-win Outcomes, this five-day fair covered an exhibition area of 60,000 square meters. It gathered 1,700 offline exhibitors from 82 countries and regions, including over 1,100 overseas exhibitors, showcasing 90,000 copyrighted books and 220,000 high-quality printed books. As a highlight event of the fair, the 2026 BIBF Fine Journal Exhibition, hosted by the China Periodicals Association, is included in the Exhibition of Fine Traditional Chinese Cultural Classics. All exhibited journals are selected and recommended by provincial administrative authorities and finalized by the China Periodicals Association.
As China’s home to the largest number of overseas Chinese journals, Guangdong Province boasts 150 registered overseas Chinese journals in total. Upon selection by the Guangdong Periodicals Association and official approval by the China Periodicals Association, eight Guangdong overseas Chinese journals were selected for the 2026 BIBF Fine Journal Exhibition. Notably, three century-old journals from Taishan City made the list: Xinning Magazine, Fengcai Monthly and Suyuan Monthly, which serve as core cultural carriers passing down Taishan’s overseas Chinese heritage. The other five shortlisted journals are Dongguan Vision, Kaiping Ming News, Baiyun Overseas Chinese Bulletin, Zhongshan Overseas Chinese Journal and Overseas Chinese Youth.
Spotlight on Taishan Centennial Overseas Chinese Journals
Fengcai Monthly: A Global Kinship Messenger for Yu Clan Descendants
A benchmark journal of Taishan overseas Chinese culture, Fengcai Monthly boasts profound cultural roots in Taishan’s hometown communities. It bridges Yu clan members across continents, carrying irreplaceable historical, clan and patriotic value.
Adhering to its founding tenet — Connecting compatriots at home and abroad, fostering clan harmony, inheriting ancestral virtues and revitalizing the hometown — the journal runs four featured columns: Overseas Chinese Township Chronicles, Hometown & Clan Updates, Global Kinship News and Distinguished Overseas Yu Figures. It records Taishan’s local customs, urban evolvement and rural development, releases major clan events and charitable deeds of global Yu clansmen, honors outstanding overseas clan representatives, and delivers hometown policies and folk customs to soothe the nostalgia of overseas expatriates.
Distributed in over 30 countries and regions worldwide, it is hailed as a heartfelt "Collective Family Letter" uniting global Yu clansmen. Having gone through three suspensions and three revivals over its century-long development, the journal always stands firm on patriotic values and keeps pace with the times. During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, it issued patriotic editorials to unite overseas Yu clansmen to donate funds and defend the motherland. In the reform and opening-up period, it documented Taishan’s dramatic progress in infrastructure, economy and people’s livelihood, building a reliable communication platform for overseas compatriots to invest, settle and reunite with families in their hometown. In the new era, it digs into Taishan’s overseas Chinese history, folk customs and ancestral culture, telling authentic stories of Lingnan overseas Chinese culture to the global community.
Xinning Magazine: China’s First Public-welfare Overseas Chinese Journal
Founded in February 1909, Xinning Magazine is China’s first public-welfare journal dedicated to overseas Chinese communities. For more than 110 years, it has stuck to its mission: delivering hometown and overseas Chinese news, linking global Taishan natives, serving overseas Chinese and their families, consolidating kinship bonds and facilitating hometown development.
Resumed publication in Hong Kong in December 1978, it became the first privately-run overseas Chinese journal approved by national overseas Chinese authorities to restart publication after China’s reform and opening up, setting a benchmark for the revitalization of domestic overseas Chinese publications. A frequent participant in top-tier national and international cultural exhibitions, it attended the National Periodical Exhibition in Beijing in 1990 and the China International Periodical Fair in Rome, Italy in 1992, showcasing the timeless cultural charm and international influence of Chinese century-old overseas Chinese journals.
Suyuan Monthly: Exclusive Kinship Journal for Lei, Fang and Kuang Clans Worldwide
Established in June 1925 by Taishan Suyuan Hall, Suyuan Monthly is the only publicly distributed privately-run journal entitled "Suyuan" with a national unified serial publication number. It serves global descendants of the Lei, Fang and Kuang clans, and runs entirely on voluntary donations from clan members at home and overseas.
After two suspensions and two revivals, it has maintained continuous publication since its second revival in September 1984. Known as the official "Collective Family Letter" for global Lei, Fang and Kuang clansmen, the journal once hit a peak circulation of 4,000 copies per issue, with a regular monthly print run of 3,000 copies at present. Its circulation covers Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, and more than 20 countries including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines, winning wide recognition and affection from global clan compatriots.
