In the mild spring of April, gentle breezes caress the land. The Yu Jing Memorial Hall in Shaoguan welcomed clansmen from far and wide amid melodious traditional music. The inauguration ceremony of the Shaoguan Office of Fengcai Monthly Magazine and the grand ancestral worship rite were held simultaneously. Over one hundred Yu Clan relatives traveled across mountains and rivers to return to their ancestral homeland. Through solemn rituals, they carry forward cultural roots and unite the clan by blood kinship.
This grand event marks a new starting point for Fengcai Monthly Magazine to take root in its ancestral land, as well as a vivid practice of passing down the Yu Clan’s spiritual heritage from generation to generation. It interprets the inheritance essence of millennium-old clan culture and undertakes the mission of developing clan organizations in the new era.
Returning to Origins: Rooted in the Ancestral Homeland to Consolidate Cultural Foundations
The name Fengcai was inscribed by Emperor Renzong of the Song Dynasty. It symbolizes Lord Yu Zhongxiang’s integrity, uprightness, diligence and devotion to the people, and stands as the core emblem of Yu Clan culture. For over a thousand years, Lord Yu Jing upheld the six moral precepts — integrity, impartiality, diligence, clarity, harmony and prudence — setting an eternal moral example for later generations.
As a vital bond connecting Yu Clan relatives at home and overseas, Fengcai Monthly Magazine has long inherited the ancestral spirit through writing and united clan kinship.
The establishment of the Shaoguan Office carries profound cultural significance as a meaningful return to origins. As the hometown of Lord Yu Zhongxiang, Shaoguan is the spiritual cradle of Yu Clan culture. The new office builds a communication platform for clansmen worldwide, offering fertile ground for the inheritance and development of Fengcai culture.
Zhang Jianchang from the Shaoguan Cultural and Heritage Scenic Area Management Center remarked that this initiative honors ancestral roots and forges ahead into the future. It not only bridges the ancestral homeland with global clansmen, but also brings Lord Yu Jing’s spirit out of historical records into real life, allowing it to take firm root in its native land.
As the guardian of local ancestral culture, the Yu Jing Memorial Hall will rely on the new office to connect proactively with clansmen at home and abroad, fully promote Yu Jing culture, and revitalize clan heritage through cultural exchanges both inbound and outbound, ensuring the ancestral cultural lineage endures forever.
Uniting Hearts and Strengths: Bonded by Kinship to Gather Clan Solidarity
The successful holding of this grand gathering owes to the joint efforts of clansmen from all walks of life. As President of the memorial hall, I oversaw overall planning and coordination; council members divided responsibilities and collaborated closely; President Yu Minfa provided thoughtful guidance. Clansmen from various regions traveled a long journey to attend the event. The youth troupe of Yingde Fengcai Hall Lion & Martial Arts Team from Qingyuan delivered wonderful performances, and Vice President Yu Guofu generously sponsored the luncheon. The dedication of all parties laid a solid foundation for the smooth running of the ceremony.
Clan cohesion stems from shared blood ties and the resolve to move forward as one. Association leaders including Yu Qilang, Yu Qixiang, Yang Hui and Yu Zhihui traveled far out of deep love for the ancestral homeland and sincere devotion to the clan. Local clansmen offered thoughtful on-site support throughout the event. Everyone practiced the fine tradition of honoring ancestors and fostering clan harmony with concrete actions, strengthened blood bonds through mutual support, enhanced clan centripetal force, and injected powerful momentum into the inheritance of Fengcai culture.
Carrying Forward the Legacy: Upholding the Spirit to Write a New Chapter for a New Era
Lord Yu Zhongxiang’s Fengcai spirit remains highly aligned with contemporary values after thousands of years. The Yu Clan’s fine tradition of valuing kinship and harmony has always been a powerful force in uniting people’s hearts. The new era entrusts clan organizations with new missions: we must stay true to the original aspiration of respecting ancestors while shouldering the responsibility of inheritance and development.
Going forward, the Yu Jing Memorial Hall will take the Shaoguan Office as a platform to deepen exchanges and friendship among clansmen across regions. It will unite consensus through cultural bonds, and take it as its mission to promote Lord Yu Jing’s spirit of integrity, uprightness, diligence and dedication to the people. The six precepts will be upheld as the code of conduct for all clansmen in self-cultivation and daily life.
Meanwhile, efforts will be made to encourage the younger generation to learn about clan history and carry forward ancestral virtues. Clansman associations across regions will be urged to strengthen interaction, promote cultural exchanges through kinship activities, and drive clan development via cultural inheritance.
Respecting ancestors nurtures noble public virtue; inheriting Fengcai culture keeps the cultural lineage everlasting. Standing at a new historical starting point, the Yu Jing Memorial Hall and the Shaoguan Office of Fengcai Monthly Magazine will stay rooted in the ancestral land, unite clan kinship, and pass down the essence of Fengcai culture. They will faithfully safeguard the Yu Clan’s ancestral roots and cultural heritage, let the noble spirit of Lord Yu Zhongxiang illuminate the clan’s journey forward, and help the Yu Clan forge ahead with one heart and one mind to write new glory in the new era.
