On 11 September 2026, I participated as a self-funded member in a series of study tours organised by the Huicheng District Collectors Association of Huizhou. As a dynamic second-tier city in the Greater Bay Area, Huizhou boasts a vibrant cultural heritage scene. During this trip, I attended a cultural relic donation ceremony and visited a special exhibition of Tang Dynasty artefacts as well as a joint exhibition by collectors across the Greater Bay Area. The immersive learning experience was truly rewarding.

The first event was a solemn ceremony where Association President Lin Xuanzhi and Supervisor Lin Boxi donated cultural relics to the Huizhou Museum free of charge. Cultural treasures preserved in private collections shine brighter when shared with the public. By donating their long-curated artefacts, these collectors have brought privately-held heritage items into the public museum system, where they receive professional conservation and public access. Their selfless commitment to safeguarding cultural heritage is deeply admirable. The well-structured, properly managed ceremony offered valuable practical insights for planning exhibitions and collecting artefacts at the Yu Jing Memorial Hall.

Afterwards, we toured Huizhou Museum’s special exhibition *The Reign of Zhenguan: A Glimpse of the Tang Dynasty under Li Shimin*. With a thoughtfully laid-out gallery and professional guided tours, the exhibition linked tangible artefacts to state governance and social life during the Zhenguan era, offering an immersive experience of the glorious Tang civilisation. I paid close attention to the exhibition layout, graphic design and visitor interpretation services, drawing inspiration from the museum’s mature curation practices.

During the study tour, I also visited *Goose City Gathering · Radiance of Bay Area Collectors*, a joint exhibition hosted by collectors’ associations from across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Fine paintings, calligraphy works and antique curios contributed by collectors from the region were on display. The selection of exhibits, spatial arrangement and descriptive texts presented many valuable takeaways.

As a director of the Yu Jing Memorial Hall in Shaoguan, this trip has brought me great inspiration. The standardised operations of public museums, the public-spirited dedication of private collectors, and the innovative model of joint exhibitions among Greater Bay Area collectors all offer important references. I will bring back the experience gained in curation, exhibition installation, artefact acquisition and public event organisation to Shaoguan. It will support the Memorial Hall in developing thematic exhibitions on Yu clan history and culture, and help revitalise and pass down fine traditional culture.
